Desertification - Livestock - Food

Hopefully humans will stop assuming we know so much about Mother Earth without truly knowing all the connections. This video is not just full of hope, but of realistic solutions based on holistic understanding

New Moon

Today is both the start of a moon cycle and the start of the week. The last full moon was a super moon and fell on the winter equinox. Which means though we are still in winter the days will start getting longer, which I think is a good sign to start something.

As I get older I find my minds stretches further into the future, I find my self considering plans two years from now, and as every optimist knows things don't work out the way you expect, they're just not meant to. I'm also a perpetual day dreamer and will literally sit there for hours thinking about doing or not doing things, with out actually achieving anything.

So to keep me motivated and ward of disappointment, I've decided to follow the transition of the moon, because every full moon looks more or less the same, so the transition of time become a lot less daunting and more manageable (think when you look at a calendar and you realize what month and year its and then you realize how fast times gone and oh no you've meant to achieve this by now and blah blah blah...).

There's also something a lot more holistic about using the moon as an indicator of time, and something quite grounding about looking to the sky to remember where you are.
To follow this idea of connectedness, for this cycle I've decided to focus on my mind and body, by doing regular meditation and sticking to a healthy diet and exercise plan.

Carrot cake!

If you have heaps of carrots and your've already overdosed on carrot juice, heres what you can do.

Make a super yummy, gluten free, sugar free, dairy free but definitely not flavour free CARROT CAKE, did i mention the icing is a sweet almond hummus!

Its really easy if you have a food processor with a grating attachment...otherwise have fun grating 4 large carrots.

First up before you start grating, turn the oven on, 180 degrees.
Top, tail and peel 4 large carrots, then grate away. Also at this point you should throw in a decent sized knob of ginger to be grated with the carrots (otherwise use 1/2 tbs dried ginger).

Other ingredients you'll need for the cake:

  • 1 1/2 cup almond meal
  • 1/2 tps baking powder
  • 1 tps bicarb
  • sea salt
  • 1 tps cinnamon
  • 1/2 tps nutmeg
mix all these dry ingredients together. Then mix in:
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts
  • 1 cup chopped dates
  • grated stuff
  • 2 tbs almond oil
  • 2 eggs, whisked (also you that annoying egg white you get on your fingers when breaking the egg...wipe it all over face, like a face mask...no joke, it feels weird, BUT it has amazing tightening, brightening, protein powered effect)

Bake in whatever apparatus you like, whether it be cake tin, bread tin, muffin tin, for about 20 minutes.

Now you can stop at this point because the cake it delicious on it own, but if you would like to cover it in sweet almond hummus, please read on.

Again with the help of your trusting side kick the food processor, add:
  • 2 cups soaked almonds...or 1 can of white beans + 1 cup dry almonds still works
  • 2 lemons, zest and juice
  • 2 tbs almond oil
  • 1 tbs tahini
  • 1 tbs agave syrup or maple syrup, which i reckon works better
  • 1/2 tbs whatever spices, cinnamon, nutmeg, cummin
  • salt

CARROTS - good for your eyes and for your colour.
WALNUTS - balance of omega oils, and you know how its shaped like your brain...that means its good for that to.
DATES - natural source of sugar and fibre, also contains iron.
ALMONDS - well I'm sure you've read heaps on these filled bad boys, almond butter is my comfort food.

Concept of the future

We invented the concept of a future. The future doesn't exist; the only thing that exists is now and what we can remember of the past.
But because the human brain invented the idea of a future we are the only creature that realised that we can affect the future by what we do today.

~ David Suzuki

COLOUR

Colour is the light that is reflected.
It is a way in which we perceive and interpret our external world.
And although colour comes from the same light source, all living things use and perceive it differently,
and all colour can be interpreted differently.

We are always changing and growing

I don't feel that it is necessary to know exactly what I am. The main interest in life and work is to become someone else that you were not in the beginning.

- Michel Foucault

We don't always need to categorize ourselves and other. We are always changing and growing with new experiences and knowledge.
So feel free to be what ever you want to be, and feel free to never really make up your mind.

Protect Our Coral Sea

So happy to hear!!!
Thanks to all those courage strong people that are apart of the 'Protect Our Coral Sea' campaign including the many who signed the petition and support this effort in many ways.

There is now a new network of ocean parks around Australia that have been over ten years in the making.
This means no more oil and gas exploration! and a lot less fishing.

Home to many colorful, unique and bizarre creatures, this ecosystem will be safe further exploitation from man.

Its a hard task asking decision makers to choose nature over money, but this just shows the potential of passion and hope for humans.
